While Witco was updating its product identity and shifting to React, they wanted to use this change as an opportunity to tackle their design system project. It was perfect timing, but they were unsure how to get started.

Witco is an all-in-one platform for life at work. From meeting room and desk booking to occupant services, hybrid work management, analytics, and workplace ticketing.

Overview

I joined Witco during an 8-month ride to build Play, the design system. I led the project from discovery to execution in 3 main phases:

  1. Discovery and research
  2. Execution of a quick Proof-of-Concept to learn together, from conceptualizing to shipping a component.
  3. Iterative delivery

My responsibilities were threefold:

Research

Grouping of insights gathered during the interviews

Grouping of insights gathered during the interviews

The project started with interviews with the product and technical team members to gauge their understanding, pinpoint strengths and weaknesses, and grasp their expectations. Using this feedback, I provided stakeholders with a project overview and set the first-quarter priorities.

Governance

After running a proof-of-concept to explore our collaborative process from idea to implementation, I formulated a preliminary design system governance that matured over the first months. This framework guides the maintenance, evolution, and usage of a design system, with clear processes, roles, and responsibilities.
